ABOUT MOEG.
It started with one simple word.
MOEG.
We were visiting friends in Pretoria for a few days, and one afternoon, the older lady of the house came home from work and asked how her kids were doing.
The answer?
“Moeg.”
She laughed.
“Julle is altyd moeg.”
And somehow, that little comment started a conversation.
Because she wasn't wrong.
We realised how often South Africans say moeg — no matter how old you are, what you've been doing, or how well life is actually going.
You can have a great day and still be moeg.
You can have slept eight hours and still be moeg.
You can be physically tired, mentally tired, socially tired, financially tired...
Or just moeg vir iets.
A few minutes later, my husband walked into the kitchen.
She asked him how he was.
Without even thinking about it, he answered:
“Moeg.”
We laughed.
But on the drive home, I kept thinking about it.
MOEG.
It felt so incredibly South African.
Not necessarily negative. Not dramatic.
Just that very familiar answer we all seem to have.
“Hoe gaan dit?”
“Goed... net moeg.”
And that's where MOEG. started.
MOEG. IS FOR EVERYONE.
Because being moeg isn't an age thing.
It's not a job thing.
It's not a parent thing.
It's not even always about being tired.
Sometimes you're moeg vir die werk.
Sometimes you're moeg vir die WhatsApp-groepe.
Sometimes you're moeg vir ander se kak.
Sometimes you're simply...
FOKKEN MOEG.
And sometimes you're actually doing pretty damn well.
You're just...
moeg.
So we made a clothing brand out of it.
Not because we're miserable.
Because we think it's funny.
Because it's relatable.
Because if you've ever answered “Moeg” when someone asked how you're doing...
You're one of us.
MOEG.
Goed. Net moeg.
